Girls basketball- Dexter 36 PCHS 34

DEXTER—Peyton Watson and Megan Peach combined to record 26 points and 21 rebounds in leading the Dexter Tigers girls basketball team to a 36-34 victory over the Piscataquis Community high school (PCHS) Pirates at Ed Guiski gymnasium on Thursday evening.

Jordynne Littlefield gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead. Dexter scored the next six points, and didn’t trail the rest of the way. Watson capped an 8-0 run that extended into the second quarter and gave the Tigers a 14-4 lead. Dexter held an 18-12 lead going into halftime. Watson and Peach each had eight points in the first half.

“They (Peach and Watson) are tough to guard. Watson is a tough matchup for us. Megan Peach and the (Morgan) Doak girl from George Stevens are as good of shooting 6’1 (players) as we are going to face all year,”PCHS coach Brian Gaw said. “It makes it tough, if you go out on them, they can go by you.”

The Tigers scored the first six points of the second half to take their biggest lead of 12 (24-12). A huge reason for the Tigers success was a 33-20 rebounding edge. Peach (12), Watson (9), and Michaela White (7) combined for 28 rebounds.

Allen recorded two rebounds, two steals, and one assist. She shot 4-9 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line in 29 minutes.
