Boston Red Sox- weekly update (April 13th)

The Boston Red Sox started the season by winning four of their first six games. They will get to play in front of the home fans for the first time on Monday afternoon when they host the Washington Nationals.

The first week was highlighted by a marathon 19 inning win over the Yankees. Xander Bogaerts had four hits in that game, all in extra innings.

Bogaerts has started the season hitting .407 in six games.  The week featured solid pitching performances from Clay Buchholz,Justin Masterson, and Joe Kelly. Rick Porcello and Wade Miley also turned in decent starts, despite not being able to pick up a victory.

Buchholz followed up his seven inning, shutout performance on opening day, with a dismal outing at Yankee stadium. He allowed nine earned runs in 3.1 innings, including giving up seven runs in the first inning.

The Red Sox hit five home runs on opening day for the first time in team history. Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia each hit two home runs in the 8-0 win over the Phillies. Ramirez is hitting .320 with three homers and seven RBI in five games.

The home opener will be the highlight of the next week.  Porcello will get two starts during the week, including the home opener. The Red Sox will face Stephen Strasburg in the second game of their season against the Nationals. The week will conclude with the first three games of a four game Patriots day weekend series against the Orioles.
