Brit Mellor scored her first goal of the season at just the right time for the Husson University Eagles field hockey team.

Mellor lifted the Eagles to a 1-0 victory over the UMF Beavers in the North Atlantic Conference championship game when she put the ball past goalie Patricia Smith with 3:35 remaining in the second overtime.

Smith and outstanding defense kept the underdog Beavers in the game. Husson (9-8) out-shot UMF 67-2. Smith recorded 30 saves.

With the win, the Eagles advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011. Husson will travel to South Hadley, Mass for a first round NCAA game against the Mount Holyoke Lions on Wednesday, November 12th. The winner will advance to the semifinals where they will take on Bowdoin.
