EMCC basketball heading to national championship

Bangor, ME— If you have not had the chances to watch the Eastern Maine Community college (EMCC)  men’s basketball team play yet then you are seriously missing out.

They are playing well enough to be ranked #1, both in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) as well as #1 in the division II rankings for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

They have had some tough games where they have played and came back to win from behind. The athletes on the men’s basketball team have bought into the whole commitment instilled onto them by their coaches to do better; not only in the classroom, but on the court as well.

“In the past it used to be where they would have a sign up sheet in the cafeteria to recruit for a team,” athletic directer Kent Corey said. “There has been an increase in the amount of fans due to how well the team is doing.”

This group of players have been held accountable whether it’s on or off the court.

“Everyone is held accountable whether it’s on the court or off it,” coach Steven Rich. “The reason for the success was that they bought into the comradely as a team and because of this the team’s defense and being able to work as a team increase. They still have yet to put together a ‘full game’ and need to work on being more consistent both on the offensive and defensive end.”

EMCC finished the regular season  with an overall record of a 18 wins and 4 losses. They are heading to the USCAA (United States Small College Conference Athletic Association) National championship in Uniontown PA where they are going in as an ‘at large’ bid during the week of the 6th -10th of March. Let’s hope that the Emcc Golden Eagles Succeed down in the tournament and bring the national championship back to the Bangor area.
